Cambridge Sidney Street store was previously trading as Woolworth until Next took possession and opened in early 2000. Although the store had gone through minor cosmetic works over the years, in early 2015 it had been decided to increase the cosmetic budget to £1.3m and give the store a complete overhaul with the majority of the spend used to redesign the existing shopfront and the Women's department on the ground floor.

The new store launched with the Fashion side opening in April 2014 and the Home floor during the following month. Keeping the brick pilasters and introducing the new frameless glass shopfront brought the store design right up to date. Extending the partial mezzanine floor to almost full cover, excluding the front and middle atrium. Adding roof lights and large windows to the rear of the store to let in as much natural light as possible to give the store a feeling of openness that was lacking in its previous guise. Installation of a new escalator, 2no new glass staircases and a new 21 person goods lift and a glass-sided 21 person customer lift.
